Dear Park Shore Association Members,
You are invited to a Park Shore Association Public Forum to consider an amendment to a city ordinance related to permissible landscaping on waterfront lots. The details are as follows:
Date: Thursday, May 30
Time: 1 pm
Location: City Hall Conference Room, 735 8th Street South, Naples, FL 34102
Purpose of the Public Forum:
The City of Naples Code of Ordinances is a collection of the laws enacted by Naples City Council to rule the conduct of our city. Although most sections of the Code of Ordinances apply to all sections of the city, Section 58 (Division 7) is unique to Park Shore which has been designated as the R1-10A Residence District.
Under Section 58-211 (d), it is stated that “On waterfront lots, all hedges and plantings beyond the rear building line shall be maintained to a height of no more than 48 inches so as not to materially obstruct the waterway view from adjoining and nearby properties.”
The Park Shore Association has been asked to advocate to the City Council for a change in this language given that the current code does not allow for any form of privacy between pool decks, as plants are limited to 4’ in height and pools and patios may be anywhere from 3’ to 6’ feet above grade. Instead, it has been proposed that privacy plantings be allowed up to the edge of the pool setback. Beyond that, plantings should be limited to 4 feet for shrubs and 10 feet of clear trunk for trees and/or palm trees.
Because this is a matter that affects many properties in Park Shore, the Park Shore Association will be holding a public forum on Thursday, May 30 at 1 pm in the City Hall Conference Room.
Participants will include:
- Christian Andrea, Owner of Architectural Land Design Inc., one of the city’s most highly regarded landscape architects.
- Cormac Giblin, currently Division Director, Housing Policy & Economic Development for Collier County Government; Former President of the Park Shore Association.
- Jay Boodheshwar, City of Naples, City Manager
- Mari Gallet, City of Naples, Deputy City Manager
- Erica Martin, City of Naples, Planning Director
We hope that you can join us either in person or via Zoom.
